# Codex setup

Jaspers Screener and Jaspers Research connect to Codex as remote MCP servers over streamable HTTP, so Codex can screen US public companies and read their SEC filings while it works in your repository: a research notebook, a backtest, a data pipeline, or a question at the prompt.

There is nothing to install beyond Codex. Setup takes a minute and needs a Jaspers account, which you create when you first sign in.

## What you can do

After setup, you can ask Codex to:

- Screen the S&P 500 for companies with gross margins above 60% and write the tickers to a CSV.
- Read a company's latest 10-K risk factors and write a one-page brief with citations to sec.gov.
- Collect every going-concern or material-weakness mention in a company's filings since 2021 into a markdown table, with a sec.gov link per row.
- Build a table of a company's insider purchases from its Form 4 filings.

## Setup

### 1. Add the servers

```
codex mcp add jaspers-screener --url https://s.jsprai.com/mcp
codex mcp add jaspers-research --url https://r.jsprai.com/mcp
```

Or add them to `~/.codex/config.toml` yourself:

```
[mcp_servers.jaspers-screener]
url = "https://s.jsprai.com/mcp"
[mcp_servers.jaspers-research]
url = "https://r.jsprai.com/mcp"
```

### 2. Sign in with Jaspers

```
codex mcp login jaspers-screener
codex mcp login jaspers-research
```

Each opens your browser on the Jaspers sign-in page: sign in with an email code or a password, and approve the connection. Codex keeps the sign-in and renews it on its own.

## Test the integration

Check that both servers are there:

```
codex mcp list
```

Then try a few prompts:

- "Use jaspers-screener to find Nasdaq-100 companies with net margins above 25%."
- "With jaspers-research, what does Apple's latest 10-K say about supplier concentration? Cite the passages."
- "Screen for S&P 500 companies whose revenue grew over 20% last year and save the result as screen.csv with each company's fiscal period end."

## Troubleshooting

**The servers don't appear in Codex.** Check that `~/.codex/config.toml` parses, then restart Codex. An older Codex may need upgrading for remote servers.

**Sign-in didn't complete.** Run `codex mcp login` for the server again and finish the sign-in in the browser.

**An authorization error that names the resource.** The server was added at an older Jaspers address. Run `codex mcp remove jaspers-research`, then add it again at `https://r.jsprai.com/mcp`.

**A tool answers that a subscription is needed, or that your account does not include research.** Your Jaspers account has no plan or preview for that connector. See your account page, https://account.jsprai.com/auth/account.

**A company "is loading".** Research loads a company from SEC EDGAR the first time anyone asks about it, which takes a few minutes. Codex follows the loading with `get_company_status`.
